The bridge with the bloody history. Near the end of the 16th century, in the village of Agios Minas, two of the largest families of the village clashed with tragic consequences. The daughter of the family Geraini, dressed as a bride, set off on foot to meet her future husband. Her fellow villager, Stamatis, along with members of his own family, ambushed the bridal procession, as he did not want this wedding. Gerainis, his wife and two cousins were killed in the surprise attack. The event became a legend and the legend became a song. A feud ensued and the villagers eventually could not stand the constant warfare and left their village for good. The bridge collapsed in the early 19th century and in its place the bridge was built, which is still standing today.
It is located on the Voidomatis River and is one of the few stone three-axis bridges. It was named “Kalogeriko” due to the sponsorship of Abbot Seraphim, who in 1748 replaced the original wooden structure with a stone one, giving it greater durability. Its second name, “Plakida”, came from the repair carried out in 1863 by Alexis and Andreas Plakidas. The bridge is one of the most characteristic monuments of the area, highlighting both the architectural tradition of Zagori and the contribution of local benefactors.
It is a single-arch bridge, well preserved, with two side abutments for support. Its builder cleverly exploited the spot where the river narrowed, slightly bypassing the straight road and constructing cobbled paths parallel to the riverbed, leading to the top of the bridge. The bridge was originally erected in 1750 with the funding of Noutsos Kontodimos from Vradeto and reconstructed in 1768 by the Kapesovite Noutsos Karamesini. Originally it was also called “Mr. Alexis’s bridge”, as it was later repaired by his son, Alexis Nutsos. In 1910 it suffered significant damage and was renovated with the contribution of the surrounding villages, the Ottoman state, and the miller Grigoris Kokkoros, from whom the second name of the bridge came, thanks to the care and repairs he made from time to time.
